Question: does anyone really consider WUSTL to be an elite school?

WUSTL is taking steps -- like reducing class size -- to boost selectivity.
Overall, this ranking is reasonable. The only gross inequity is Brown ranking below WUSTL, Cornell, and Northwestern

I think this ranking is pretty reasonable. Cornell should probably be a few spots higher, UPenn should be a few spots lower, but otherwise, it's not a bad ranking.
Also, Cornell being ranked below Chicago is ridiculous? I dunno about that - it's debatable - Chicago is a Really good school dude, and being in the top ten seems about right. I still don't buy UPenn being better than Columbia, and I agree, WUSTL is too high.

i'm not sure how you can say that with a straight face without calling out hopkins, brown and rice (all are shit holes with declining numbers) or expressing disgust with usnwr's hard-on for trade schools (anything with "tech" in the name, carnegie mellon, etc.)
plain and simple: there are ivies and then there is HYP. the drop off in quality and prestige is like a cliff.

That's BS.
If you receive such a better education at HYP, then why is the most lucrative college (according to WSJ) a "lower" Ivy?

Q: Why do people some study liberal arts instead of engineering/accounting/business?
A: Because only poors have the mentality that college is only for getting jobs.
This mentality and how it correlates to attendance at high and low ivies answers your question. Middle class folks get into Dartmouth and go into business. Wealthy folks go to Yale and work on a campaign/try to save the world/do some other fairy bull shit after graduating. Those jobs pay less than working in management, but what does it matter: they have a wealthy family and an HYP degree.
Bottom line: If you want to jerk your dick over the fact that your UG is the greatest trade school in the land, go ahead. Clean up when you're done.

I'm not debating what kinds of kids go to Dartmouth and HYP, I'm debating what you said earlier:
"there are ivies and then there is HYP. the drop off in quality and prestige is like a cliff."
I take issue with what you say is a cliff-like "drop off" in quality and prestige. I don't think that's the case, especially if, as you say, middle class people go to Dartmouth, and then get paid the most. That requires some high quality, if you aks me.

Ah, Dartmouth still one step shy of the top ten. So close.
I find it funny looking at this ranking and then looking at the Forbes ranking.
