Both nycfan and repapa have argued that the 10 plus year old Revealed Preference study should be given enormous weight (perhaps more than anything else) in deciding the quality of a school's education because it reveals the college choices of high school teens. But this thinking is fatally flawed. If, in fact, teens are in the best situation to judge a college, then how do you explain the following:

Do you really think the students at the school identified in the first link knew what they were getting into when they were in high school? Do you really believe they expected to have this level of dissatisfaction with their education?
Of course not.
Students best able to evaluate a college are those currently attending the college, not high school teens getting bombarded with brochures loaded with nycfan type propaganda.

I am not the only one who finds the Princeton Review's approach to rankings pathetic... even offensive.
After a fitful effort a few years back, they have abandoned any serious attempt to compare schools, and have settled for headline-grabbing and statistically-dubious assertions that this school or that is the best "drinking school" or the home of the most "sandal-wearers".

It is interesting how Nycfan (harvard troll) and Repapa (yale troll) both avoid the College Prowler academic ratings. Instead they both like to refer to a 10 year old highly criticized study (Revealed Preference) of teens who had yet to attend college. College Prowler asks students to rate their schools in a number of areas, including academics. It is the ultimate consumer survey, since those responding are actual users of the product.
Could there be a better college "Consumer Study" than CollegeProwler? Perhaps COFE, but that does not speak well of their schools also. The real answer behind their silence is that the students attending Harvard and Yale do not rate the academic strength of their institutions as highly as do the students from Stanford, MIT and Princeton !!!!!!!!!

Although Harvard is behind Princeton in all of the national ranking publications, Yale's problems are far greater: continual poor performance in the national rankings; an increasingly lowered image nationwide (as evidenced by its drop in the US News peer assessment score); students who place the school's academics in the second tier (see collegeprowler.com) and school newspaper editors (Yale Daily News) who picked Princeton as the best undergraduate program!!!

The page one article speaks for itself. The Crimson did not mention harvard's poor showing or failure to make the top 20 in a number of areas like HAPPINESS, QUALITY OF LIFE, MOST ATTRACTIVE CAMPUS, ETC. It placed its most favorable PR academic ranking on page ONE! It would not have even mentioned PR if it felt the same way about PR that Nycfan pretends to.
