from article:
'Also, more Ivy League graduates go into finance roles than graduates of other schools, and employers pay a premium for them, says Peter Cappelli...
"Dartmouth kids get paid more for the same job than kids from Rutttgers are [doing]," he says.'
Am I correct in assuming the two grads have the same job in the same firm, but alcoholic Dartmoth u-grad got a bigger signing bonus?
What empirically makes a Dartmoth education better than Rutttgers, can anyone answer?

Well, they may get more to start in some places (proof of gayness towards workers), but if that's all you're looking for ..
It's what you make later that matters, and aside from consulting which needs credentials to pimp out, usually your skills on the job, both technical and personal, keep you in the game. Ivy means a lot and you should crtainly choose them if you are accepted. It's not the end of the game though only the beginning of a long work life.

Starting salary is one thing. People from top schools are generally going to be better armed for the first couple of years out in certain sectors (mainly the big banks), but after that it depends on the individual. And some people who went to Rutgers might have gone on to graduate school and surpass their Ivy League counterparts, which of course were left out of this study. You need to take any article like this with a huge grain of salt.

i don''t think that analysts at goldman or whatever are getting paid differently based on their school. what the author may mean is that a grad from rutgers going into "investment banking" will be getting less than a HYP grad going into "investment banking," but that's probably because the rutgers kids will be at more boutiques/smaller places while the ivy kids will be at the big banks, where pay will be higher. they're probably looking at job role/description rather than specific firms.
