MADISON COUNTY, Ind. (WXIN) — A lion and a cub are loose in Indiana Thursday, authorities say.
Sheriff’s deputies and state police are on the hunt for the big cats in Hancock or Madison counties, according to Nexstar’s WXIN.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Department said it received reports of a loose lion on Thursday. A drone operator then reportedly confirmed the sighting after spotting both the lion and the cub in a field.
Police believe the lion and the cub are somewhere in southern Madison County or northern Hancock County.
Authorities are urging anyone who spots a lion to call either the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department or the Madison County Sheriff’s Department to report its location.
As of early Thursday afternoon, no missing animals from any animal sanctuaries had been reported. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department said it is unaware of any permits in Madison County that permit the ownership of a lion.
Authorities warn civilians not to try to pet or feed the lions.
