But there were other times it could be surprisingly brittle although those times were getting rare. Using it for brainstorming ideas for instance it usually would come up with cartoonish unrealistic shit that looked like an awkward mashup of stuff from an alternate universe. And also when I would give it certain novel info and data to analyze that wouldn't be in its training data it would come back with surprisingly stupid answers. Hoping models like astra that generalize really well will fix this. Although astra is only meant for agentive processes and not chat. At this point it feels like the frontier labs will continue marching towards "replace all knowledge work and win the lottery" while in the mean time the rest of us in the real world wait for faster+cheaper open source models to work with in the period where we still have Jobs. |

In Work mode you can set its effort level, but it drains your work credits (btw, I just saw that ChatGPT has a "Usage Reset" that you can you use three times. It resets your 5 hour and weekly meter (my current weekly meter resets on Tuesday mornings and I just ran out from using Astra too much, but I'm going to save my reset. I'm going to abstain from Astra all day tomorrow, start a new week on Tuesday and then max out Astra on Friday night, reset it Saturday morning so it syncs with my Claude account. That way, I use them both for work all week and whatever I have leftover I can max out myself on Friday night which takes about five minutes when you are using Fable5 and Astra).
In Chat mode, you have to use it on Pro effort and you normally get 5-6 substantial Pro prompts per month. |

But the output was way better than prior models. It seemed to understand the purpose of my inquiries and to not make faulty or limiting assumptions much better than other models. For minor clarifications, I used 5.6 lite to update understandings or to clarify things, then used astra to rerun the deeper analysis.
