Yeah the world has always been a nexus of horror but in retrospect all of that 90’s occult apocalyptic conspiracy/paranoia was pretty on point. It’s just that the denouement of the 2010s-2020s was anticlimactic and even more demoralizing than one could’ve imagined back then. Everything now feels like a diffuse spectrum of dissociated and splintered interests, when it used to be a more concentrated brand of insanity.

the founders had humility and rationalistic skepticism towards the world around them; contemporary Americans may gesture at prayer and thanks but they don't ever slow down their eating or allow for things outside of walled embrasements to grow on the land
