NCFOM was also really different/pretty good, with a great villian, and a good 'what would you do' aspect. Kings Speech was interesting bcs I am British and it covered my countrys history and the Monarchy etc. Oppenh was good but they should have focused more on the 'oh the humanity' aspect much much moar, they really missed that aspect imho Departed and Birdman were meh, so may rewatch just to be sure.

Past 2011, I have not seen any of the others, except Spotlight (2016). I don't feel like I'm missing out. I've barely even heard of some of those movies.
Contrast that with the 90s-early 2000s, when I--and millions of other Americans--would have seen a lot of the Best Picture nominees (not just winners) and would have, at minimum, been familiar with nearly all of the rest. |
