I have about 30k in credit card debt. I'm the the process off going through divorce from a financially, emotionally and psychologically abuse spouse. After that's all said and done I'll need to file for bankruptcy to deal with the debt accumulated over years of her refusal to be employed and just want to hang out at home with our kids. I was put in a situation where I was sole financial support for 13 years while she basically did whatever she wanted. In that time much of my debt was used to cover living expenses around her spending and animal hoarding. During that time I put off my career to work but not being in a good position or location to find good paying work (she refused to move oh it was a covert narcissistic relationship btw) so I kept my income low to maintain health insurance and support. While I was in my fog of being the dumb dutiful husband and father the only thing I spent on myself was books, mostly educational but some manga, and newspapers strip comic collections. My book collection is in my view priceless but there is a lot of well used stuff and cat pee damaged material too, not so damaged that I'd throw it away but I value things that fulfill the mind. Though after the divorce I don't know what I'll have left in the home most of the furniture is in bad shape though functional. essentially, I got a working refrigerator, stove, a decent car that apparently might cause a problem but in Ohio, I have a few instruments an amplifier my instruments I can write off as work related because I also teach music, the thing is there is a lot of basic "stuff" in the home for living and I would hate to see things used for living taken because I own too many books (30 years of educational buying in music and art as my only interest) or have to sell off the one thing I have dear to me after I spent 15 years in a marriage that erased. If I have to get rid of my collection to survive getting a divorce that's ok but I don't know it's tough because in order to survive post divorce I'll need to file but I'm also worried the last remaining part of me I'll have to part with just to be free.

Another redditor offers support

An attorney consult would be best - you could visit any in your local area for free - and that will provide a lot of peace of mind because you'll get a lot of useful info from them. I personally didn't give up anything in my CH7 though.

On the relationship part of things, you're doing the right thing. I actually filed bankruptcy twice in four years, due to being with a similar person as you've been with here. One might ask why I didn't leave after the first bankruptcy. I don't know why... that's on me though. No problem admitting that either. Anyway, once you leave her, you'll find things to be a whole lot easier. Wishing you all the best.

Divorce isn't the end of the world. And neither is bankruptcy. Generally if you're going through one, you're probably going through/not far from the other soon. Strange how that works.

Anyway, hang in there man... you've got a good future ahead! Don't let the present get you down.

This is the most Reddit thing I’ve ever read.

Priceless to me, cat piss soaked comic books.
