The feeling of the mid to late 90s is encapsulated by the lyrics "Just lying in the bar with my drip feed on. Talking to my girlfriend, waiting for something to happen. I wish it was the 60s I wish I could be happy I wish I wish I wish something would happen."
Things basically seemed ok for the first time in a long time yet there was a sense of ennui and vague dread. Then a bunch of stuff did happen - dot com crash, 9/11, Iraq War etc. and the world felt different.

the REAL spirit of the 90's was more along the lines of mmmmmbop, if you wanna be my lover, livin' la vida loca, etc.
