A lot of his argument can be boiled down to "stop expecting things not to suck, stop expecting things to be good for your kids, just accept misery." I heard this for years and my response was "fuck that, I'm not interested in being unhappy. I'd rather not have kids." At some point I had enough resources that I was confident that I could avoid this. Now that I have a kid, I realize that this was always bs. They really can be awesome and smart and sweet. No, your dog won't hate them - in fact, they'll probably love each other intensely. If you show that kids are actually cool and fun people will actually want to have them.
