Are you filtering water? That's good to get used to for your overnight and will allow you to reduce weight.
Where are you going? What kind of tips are you looking for?

Where will you be hiking? If you're somewhere like the Adirondacks this time of year, you'd have to try to avoid coming across ponds and lakes and streams that are running that you could filter from. It doesn't taken much advanced planning or thought.
If you're somewhere like southern Utah, it's worth thinking about in advance.
You should have a good map, which will show creeks, springs, and seeps that you could potentially filter from. But, sometimes those will be dry, so you should have a back up in mind. Rangers should be able to give you the latest about what to expect.

Heat and elevation will kick your ass way more than distance will.
Filter water if you can.
Don’t step on a rattlesnake.
Start early, skip breakfast, and go as far as you can before stopping for lunch.
Bring electrolyte powder.
Bring two hats—faggy full brim one for when it’s direct sun and a baseball hat for when it’s not.
Wear sunscreen that’s not going to run into your eyes, which will ruin your day.
Bring TP and some Dude Wipes.
