modern weed is like a portal to a spirit realm where demons and angels both live

"To understand how smoking hybridized weed gets linked to "sorcery" in Jewish mysticism, we have to look at the intersection of two ancient concepts: Kilayim (forbidden mixtures) and Kishuf (sorcery).
While they don't explicitly mention modern cannabis strains, the mystical framework treats the act of crossbreeding plants and using mind-altering substances as a disruption of the universe's spiritual boundaries.
Here is a breakdown of how the Mystic Judaism and Jewish tradition connect these dots.
1. Kilayim: The Prohibition of Hybridization
In the Torah (Leviticus 19:19), there is a strict prohibition against Kilayim—mixing certain things that aren't meant to be mixed. This includes crossbreeding animals, wearing fabrics woven of both wool and linen (Shatnez), and grafting or hybridizing different species of seeds and plants.
Most modern cannabis strains are highly hybridized (crossing Sativa, Indica, and Ruderalis) to maximize THC yields, flavors, or growth speeds. From a strict textual standpoint, deliberately crossbreeding distinct plant species brushes up against the laws of Kilayim.
2. The Supernal View: Hacking the "Spiritual DNA"
The Torah and Kabbalah (Jewish mysticism) explain why hybridization is forbidden. According to the Torah, God created the universe with a highly specific order. Every single species of plant, animal, and blade of grass has a specific spiritual root, governed by an assigned angel or spiritual force in the heavenly realms.
The Mystical Mechanism: When someone hybridizes two distinct plant species, the Torah views it as an attempt to forcefully cross their spiritual channels above. It is seen as a rebellion against the divine order—essentially telling the Creator, "Your design wasn't good enough; I am going to rewire the spiritual circuitry of the earth."
3. Why Hybridization is Equated with Sorcery (Kishuf)
In Judaism, sorcery (Kishuf) isn't just about waving a magic wand; it is defined as manipulating or overriding the natural laws of creation.
Great Kabbalists, like the Ramban (Nahmanides), explicitly linked the hybridization of plants to sorcery. By tampering with the genetic and spiritual boundaries of a plant, a person draws down chaotic, impure energies from the Sitra Achra (the "Other Side," or the realm of spiritual impurity). Because sorcery and hybridization both involve hacking the universe's "source code" to create unnatural outcomes, they are often viewed through the exact same mystical lens.
4. The Altered State and the "Other Side"
Beyond the botany, the Zohar is highly cautious about how we access the spiritual realms.
Prophecy and holy spiritual connection in Judaism are supposed to be achieved through rigorous discipline, prayer, and a grounded mind. Using intense, unnaturally hybridized psychoactive substances to forcefully induce an altered state or a "spiritual trip" is considered a shortcut. In the Kabbalistic view, trying to blast open the doors of perception using external substances bypasses holy protection. It leaves the soul vulnerable to illusions and lower-level spiritual entities, which is the exact domain that sorcery operates in."
