Excellent children's high-fantasy series from the 1960s or 1970s; Disney adapted the first one into the box-office snafu of The Black Cauldron

IDK how they hold up for straight reading as an adult, but they're funny and exciting and would be fun to read to kids

They're not (AFAIK) explicitly Christian but they have good moral values without being tiresome

I always had a feeling that there was some legit source material behind Black Cauldron - you could tell there was some major heart there somewhere

i haven't seen it; i never really loved disney animation as a kid (although I really enjoyed the '60s and '70s live action family movies they put out under the Buena Vista division; lots of classic light comic fantasies)

Funny enough it was the exact opposite for me - saw most of the animated ones growing up at least once, but had no idea there was such thing as live action Disney movies (outside of Homeward Bound of course!), so it’s been a pleasant surprise to discover all the classic light comic fantasies as an adult

>The Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University contains a permanent Lloyd Alexander exhibit that showcases several items from his home office including his desk, typewriter, and manuscripts and editions of his books.

Strangely I can’t think of a much higher compliment nowadays, the gorgeous Latter Day Saint tendency of appreciation for wholesome life-affirming artwork wherever it’s found
