Not remotely as profitable (streaming, death of theaters)
Marketing to foreign brown dumbs
Marketing to american brown dumbs
The people who now make movies have no life experience and stories to tell.
DEI chased all the talent out

movies used to be about telling a story, sending a moral message, reenacting history and showing the human side; they enlightened up, provoked us, asked us to help solve a mystery, or simply entertained, but now its about selling you low quality shit you dont need and never wanted, for a lot of money, and making sure you buy it over and over and over again until you die or have kids, in which case you pay over and over and over until your kids die, and so on.

the Internet
would like that British Movie Finance Guy's thoughts though. my hunch is something along the lines of:
- home viewing experience killing theaters was inevitable in the long run. so the big moviecos have defaulted to a much safer mode of operation.
- for movies released with a Computer Online Screen First Strategy, streaming services are involved earlier in the process than old style film distributors. so those trying to make movies hit the "does corporate approve" wall at a much earlier stage in the process and true "independent" films are actually less common despite the total number of released films increasing

Biggest reason, even beyond DEI casting, is the forced diversity in the writers rooms. Many studios have enforced what amounts to writing by committee with the makeup being diverse. So you end up with poorly written stories and too much focus on surface level shit that women care about the most.
Whereas most of the best stories come from one or two people who have total creative control.

the same reasons all of the buildings look so horrible now everywhere you go
they want you to be constrained
they want you to lose everything that makes you you

They never give any up and coming writer directors a chance. Coppola, Lucas, Cameron, Anderson, Fincher, Spielberg, Crowe, Tarantino, Nolan, Besson, Welles, Wachowski, Hitchcock, Kubrick, Malick.
Take your pick. Great Films are made by great directors. Period end of discussion. A very, very small group of white men made every masterpiece of all time. Film is the only art form where you basically need someone with hundreds of millions of dollars in expendable capital to give you a chance to make something special.
You take away the pipeline of genius unfettered creative white men's capable of greatness receiving funds from a rich Jew who believes in them and you have nothing left. Virtually every director I named had some really crazy origin story. They were psychos and savants by birth. They were maximizing the radical struggle of art. They all got insanely lucky or by someone fluke occurrence had some random executive believe in them completely to make real magic happen.
Pretty easy for libs to put the kabosh on genius white guys with no rules spending other people's money. Simple as.

There's clips of Ben Affleck blaming DVD sales, but the overall box office is just much smaller than it used to be too. Fewer tickets to the movies are being sold, and a huge percentage of the tickets that are being sold are to super hero / franchises / IP.
They basically only make independent adult movies now with budgets of like $10 mm. If you adjusted for inflation (and rising production costs which have outpaced inflation), most of the movies people liked growing up would have budgets of like $100 million - and Hollywood pumped out 2-4 of them a week (mature comedies, slapstick comedies, kid comedies, legal thrillers, sexual thrillers, slasher thrillers, romantic comedies, dramas, period dramas, etc.)
People liked Project Hail Mary this year - which was probably the only big budget original movie. The differnce is in 1995, Hollywood produced 50 of those types of movies.
