How does the Bitcoin recipient business know what transaction it was for?

Just entered the address and the purchase amount they gave me into my Coinbase wallet and about an hour later they gave me credit for the purchase.
But I was wondering - if it's a business that sells a lot of a particular product at a certain price, how would they know which customer the incoming payment is for? |
