United Airlines will make significant cut backs due to the decline in International travel to and from the USA
*Cutting/reducing a variety of routes 2025-2026
*Removing from fleet a number of older 767, 757 and 777 aircraft
*Projected redundancies after 12-24 months
First route canceled is the Boeing 737 MAX8 service between Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).. The route, which was set to begin on May 22, 2025, was quietly removed from United’s website.
United's oldest operating Boeing 777-200 N777UA and #7 on the production line is 30 years old
United's oldest operating Boeing 757-200 N58101 is 31 years old
United's oldest operating Boeing 767-300 N641UA is 34 years old
Routes to destinations such as Australia, Asia and Europe have experienced a definite decline in bookings for almost all airlines
One airline is offering flights from Sydney to Los Angeles (with a stop in Nadi, Fiji) for AUD$625 / USD$396 including taxes/luggage/meals return. Analysts suggest that if the downturn continues routes will be at risk of cancellation and commentary suggest that these fare levels are merely recovering fuel burned per seat
