Pete Hegseth's great-grandparents emigrated to the United States from Norway in the late 19th century. They settled in the Midwest, where the family has deep roots.
Family's Arrival in the USA
Norwegian Descent: Pete Hegseth is of overwhelming Norwegian descent, which was confirmed by a MyHeritage DNA test showing he is 96.4% Scandinavian.
Great-Grandparents' Immigration:
One set of great-grandparents, Ole Alfred Halvorson and Kjesti Larsdatter, arrived in the U.S. in November 1883. They first settled near Hartland, Freeborn County, Minnesota, and later homesteaded in Colorado.
Another pair of great-grandparents, Gunder and Dena Frayum, were also born in Norway and settled in Minnesota, where Gunder became a prosperous farmer. They had 11 children.
His great-grandfather John Hegseth moved around as a child and was eventually adopted by a local reverend in the area.
Generational Roots: The family established deep roots in the Midwest, particularly in Minnesota, where Hegseth was born and raised. His parents, Brian and Penelope "Penny" Hegseth, also lived and worked in Minnesota.
