I used to go to Cyber Cafes in the late 90s and surf the net or play Diablo 1. It is a time I remember well. Here are my observations:

1. Everyone goes there with an intent to surf the "net," but realises they don't want to be seen looking at porn, so instead just end up checking e-mail or yahoo

2. The more "active" users - anyone typing but not using e-mail, i.e. Poasting - tend to be over 6`00``. The more passive users are less frequently over 6`00``.

3. The whole experience was pointless and kind of felt like going to a record store, like people would just come by to "hang out," but WHY?

4. Phenotypes uniformly terrible

when I lived abroad in the early 2000s I used to go to a cyber cafe every day to check email. I miss those days. Some people were playing Starcraft but most were just looking at yahoo mail like me.

Do they even have cyber cafes anymore?

If they did I assume they’d be exactly the same, just swap yahoo for Facebook.

Dude net cafes were so fucking 180. I remember hanging out at my neighborhood net cafe with my friends and playing counterstrike for hours, laughing and having a great time, yelling at each other talking shit

Odd case that GC worked so hard to shut down "shared licensing" to force everyone to buy their own hardware and software and consume products alone at home instead

Btw you can still go to net cafes across Asia and they are still 180. I spent a full week in China drinking and smoking and playing DOTA in net cafes in Beijing during the day and then going to the clubs at night
