The Germans managed to do it with a frontal attack in 1941, but they weren't facing GRAD batteries and the like. There hasn't been a single instance in this war when Ukraine captured territory with a massive frontal attack on a well-defended position. Just the opposite, in fact - the most destructive Russian videos I've seen have been when the Ukrainians tried to do so and had GRADs devastate their lines.

In America what we mean by draft is the latter and not simply calling up reservists.
If you are suggesting that Ukraine is drafting untrained civilians and sending them into combat, then you are just wrong. This isn't happening. |

And there's no other way to get through the 3-mile wide isthmus without a frontal attack. Manstein tried like crazy to find some other way in 1941 but he eventually concluded there was no other way.

That won't happen with Crimea. They will have to get through the isthmus, which will be one of the most heavily-mined and defended places on earth if it becomes threatened. |

If they get further south in Kherson province those positions will be in HIMARS range. And the isolation of crimea is a double-edged sword. It's also hard to supply a large presence there if the two main roads leading to it are under UKR fire control. |
