Owners of DAY TODAY Express in Stenhousemuir Asiyah and Jawad Jawed have bought in 840 bottles of the tonic wine to keep up with customer demand

SCOTS were so desperate to get their hands on the new MD 2020 flavour they came RUNNING from their cars as soon as it was delivered to a Falkirk shop.

Asiyah Javed, 33, and husband Jawad Javed, 34, have been working non-stop since their DAY TODAY Express store in Stenhousemuir started stocking Electric Melon on Tuesday.

And the new tonic wine flavour is so popular the couple have been forced to limit customers to buying just two bottles - with other shopkeepers even sending pals to buy it for them.

Asiyah bought in 840 bottles after a post teasing the new product went viral on their Facebook page.

She told The Scottish Sun: "On Tuesday the delivery was coming in at 2pm and me and my husband were there at 9am to pick it up.

"We'd posted [on Facebook] we were on our way back so everyone knew we were going to get it.

"When we came back we never had any space to park our van!

"When they saw the van and us in the front they all came out running from their cars."

The couple, who opened the shop in 2017, say the past few days have been busier than Christmas.

Asiyah, who runs the shop's popular Facebook page, added: "I was so surprised, which is why I took the photo of customers queuing up.

"We done a minimum of two per customer because people were buying cases.

"We said it was unfair as we want everyone to get the chance.

"We were the first ones to stock it in Scotland and everyone else got it after.

"We had some other shopkeepers sending other people in it to buy it as well and sell it and they were then selling it in their own shops."

And fans of the US fruity tonic wine, commonly referred to as 'Mad Dog', have travelled from as far as Perth to get their hands on some.

Customers queued out the door and onto the street to get a taste of the drink, which also comes in seven other flavours Orange Jubilee, Banana Red, Blue Raspberry, Red Grape Wine, Dragon Fruit, Peaches & Cream and Strawberry-Kiwi.

Asiyah, who hasn't tried the wine, as she doesn't drink, said: "Mad Dog is always popular - we wrote on Facebook that it was coming soon last month and we had so many shares and comments on that post.

"The Facebook page went wild and my notifications were non-stop.

"We realised if we got it in people would go crazy.

"We try to keep it interesting and different by bringing in foreign sweets and things like that

"It's been busier than Christmas for us.

"We're the most popular local shop now!"

It's not the first time DAY TODAY Express have sent customers wild after stocking full-sugar Irn Bru last year.

Asiyah's hubby Jawad made an 800-mile round trip to a Bristol warehouse for the original recipe cans.

Demand soared when maker AG Barr slashed sugar content last January to dodge sugar tax.

The shop also went viral when they started selling Buckfast hampers over Christmas.
