$100k in regular random stocks
$250k in my 401k

If nothing else there’s a dividend yield that gets reinvested
Anyway if it goes up by 8% 2 years in a row that’s technically compound interest
There are other forms of interest that don’t compound per se such as the interest paid on a Bond iirc.

Just put everything in a S&P fund like VOO or FXAIX and forget about it until retirement. If you want to diversify, do 50% VOO 30% VTI and 20% VSUX. These are ETFs covering the S&P, the broader total stock market, and international funds.
Don't ever sell till retirement. Ignore market swings. You lose more money panic selling than leaving the fund alone and accepting the bear markets every now and then.
