what does the last item mean?
S&C moves to full RTO, lawyers expected to be in office 5x a week
Other details of the new policy:
-Remote work generally only permitted if an associate is eligible to adopt a flexible-time schedule
-Managing partner approval is needed for remote work arrangements. Max of 1x per week for a maximum of 6 months.
-Junior lawyers “generally will not be authorized to work remotely”
-Compensation and vacation time will be docked if you work a number of client hours less than a full-time schedule while working remotely

i'm not even convinced it says this.
and even if it does, i'm pretty sure it's illegal under NY law to dock an employee's base pay for doing work in the wrong place.

which is part of the reason this makes no sense. a salaried employee doesn't have a "full time schedule." under law, you're entitled to your salary whether you work 35 or 45 hours that week. the concept of less than a full time schedule doesnt apply to salaried EEs so this is just nonsensical.
to further complicate things, they seem to be conflating the concept of working hours under labor laws and billable hours. my thought is they did this intentionally to make it purposely vague and confusing and meaningless so as not to run afoul of any labor laws, but to just scare people. no way the #3 law firm in the country or whatever they are could be this retarded.

P.S. i've read this once again (for the 27th time or so), and i have a new take.
i think what it may be trying to express is that if you "work from home" for a week and bill 7 hours that week, we're going to just treat it as you were on vacation ... because we know you didnt really work and were really on vacation... so we're gonna ding you 4 days of vacation days.
whereas if you come to the office all week and jerk off with the door closed all day and poast on xo because work is slow of because you're just a slacker, and only bill 7 hours that week.... we're not gonna dock you vacation days, because that's now how we roll.
it's probably just a CYA to get rid of people who are on their way out and dont show up for 3 months and say they're "working from home" despite billing nothing. they've been ok for decades with people on their way out doing this on their way out, tho, which is weird.
