Subject: Reflections on a Loss – And a Gentle Reminder About Billing Compliance
Dear Team,
It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the tragic passing of our colleague, James H. Wilson (Class of 2020), who was taken from us far too soon in an unspeakable act of violence late last week. James was a valued associate in our Litigation Practice Group, known for his sharp legal mind and dedication to the firm. His absence will be felt deeply by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Our thoughts are with James’s family and loved ones during this devastating time. The firm will be making a donation to a charity selected by his family, and we will share details of the memorial service as they become available.
In reviewing James’s recent matters, however, we regretfully noted that he had not submitted any billable time for the past 18 days. While we understand the shock and disorientation such a loss brings, I must candidly note that this gap has resulted in a non-trivial revenue shortfall for Q3 projections. This is a sobering reminder of how essential consistent and timely timekeeping is—not only for client reporting but also for our broader financial ecosystem.
I want to take this opportunity to underscore the critical importance of submitting your time entries daily. Delays not only compromise our ability to invoice promptly, but also impact year-end performance metrics and bonus evaluations. Please ensure that you are current on all entries through today, and that going forward, time is logged no later than 9 p.m. each evening.
Let us honor James’s memory by remaining committed to the high standards of excellence and accountability that he strived for every day.
Best,
Cliff
