I have this fascination with old steel towns and rust belt shit. Before we deindustrialized. You seem like you've been everywhere, ever been through these dilapidated mill areas?

I spent some of my childhood in failing midwest rust belt cities (think Cleveland & St Louis), albeit in nice neighborhoods

I have a couple of road trips planned over coming months that are going to take in some PA and OH old mill towns

it's fucking depressing what has happened to some of those cities

I have not spent much time in the more crumbling cities in the south like Jackson, Mississippi and that kind of place

how about you?

Nah I've never been there I just watch videos of it on YouTube. I really like the Pittsburgh ones. Seems like it was once surrounded by thriving mill towns all around it. I don't know why I just really like the look of the place. For a poor area the architecture is amazing. You can tell people really once took a lot of pride in their city and area. There must have been an incredibly strong sense of community. They were all living down the road from their job.

At the same time you know it's impossible to restore these places. The herd has proverbially moved on. All the young people are gonna move away to an urban metropolis eventually. Not enough digital nomads to return and spruce up the place.

I always wonder what it would be like to rent a big loft in one of these mill towns and live there for a year and just take it in and blend into the community. The gorgeous architecture really pulls me in.
