We don't live in a capitalistic system but a corporatist one. I understand why nonwhites have hopes for the future, and why globalization is viewed by many as a bright path to the future. Overall though, this country is getting shittier. There are far fewer winners, way, way more losers, and it's becoming far less common to fall somewhere between the two.
