In all seriousness, is that income for two adults (no kids) decent for a middle class lifestyle in NYC?
ETA: I did not include a sizable (but not Milbank senior level) end of year bonus each year (but it all goes toward savings / vacations). Somewhere between $25-75k.

since you're not answering:
a decent one bed in a decent building in a desirable mfh neighborhood, with just the minimum amount of space you'll probably want, won't go for less than $6k at the absolute least.
realistically you'll want a two bed which is going to be considerably more, or at least a more expansive one bed because nyc apartments tend to be small. you're probably not spending less than $7k on housing. unless you compromise in brooklyn. and tbh you'll probably want to spend a little more not to live in an embarrassing or embarrassingly cramped apartment.
budget $500 if you want a car.
on that basis yes you can afford it with some buffer to "live" as well but you are not living absolutely lavishly. you don't want to be making much less than that as a couple if you live in mfh and you will honestly probably do well to make some sacrifices with respect to travel etc if your wife is a travel shrew. and this isn't even really taking into account the cost to furnish your place and other capital expenses.
but yeah if you are content to get your entertainment within city limits, don't travel a lot, and otherwise don't have excessive lifestyles, you can do it just fine.
(but i also fear the dink wife who desperately wants to live in mfh)

Just re-opening this thread. Sorry for delayed reply.
No desire for kids.
Shooting for a 2br, 2ba in an outter borough, walkable neighborhood.
Currently spending $300-400/wk for groceries in another HCOL city; eating out is another ~$300/wk (inc. 1-2 lunches and 1-2 dinners).

if that's the case and you're already pulling it off in another hcol city you'll be fine. the main difference to be prepared for is that, dollar-for-dollar, the quality / square footage of the housing stock in nyc is much worse. for a decent 2b / 2b in a decent neighborhood in brooklyn or queens i still think you're paying $6.5k minimum.
