Absolutely 180 unless it’s your only car and you commute in traffic every day. Even if it’s not super fast the link between driver and machine is just awesome.

Here’s how I teach it. Even a girl can learn it this way:

Most important thing is called the friction point. Have car running in flat parking lot. When the car is in 1st gear and the clutch is disengaged (pedal all the way down) you can slowly take your foot off the pedal and let it come up. Dont worry about gas pedal at all. Just lift your foot off the clutch and when it begins to engage you’ll see and feel the rpm start to dip. That’s the friction point. If you let off the clutch slowly enough you will start to move forward. Try to do this only with the clutch pedal and that’s pretty much it. Once you get that then involve the gas pedal to do it faster/ keep rpm from dipping

Start and stop traffic sucks. The fun part of a manual is accelerating. You’re shifting gears, getting faster with each one. Or you’re dropping into a lower gear to pass someone on the highway. Not a fun traffic car.

the only real argument for manual is that a lot of the modern automatic cars jerk too fast when you hit the accelerator but youre not solving any problems by buying a modern manual car either. what you really want is a recreated car from 30 years ago which unfortunately doesnt exist. also you dont need fast cars when the biggest piece of shit on the road can go 100mph.

PDK is technically faster and supposed to be great, but all these people saying it MUST be manual. idk seems like an enthusiast thing that would get annoying

i just dont know if it makes sense if you live in a city. it might be a pain in the ass

The only thing that’s flame is the idea you need to “learn.” If you’re not an extremely dumb female there’s no learning involved. You just do it. Maybe you’ll stall it once or twice and do like zero damage to anything.

I went to the dealership to check them out on Saturday but they wouldn't let me test drive a new one. If they get a pre-owned one in, they are going to call. I'm inching closer.

if you are driving for the sake of driving, with that activity as the primary focus, you cannot beat a manual, it just keeps you fully engaged with what is going on, but it is not convenient in the city

I wouldn’t buy a 991 or newer 911 in manual except as an investment (since they make so few of them). PDK surpassed manual as of the 991 IMO. The 997 offered Tiptronic (full auto) (997.1), PDK (997.2), and 6MT (all 997)—which was better than the PDK that had the weird triangular buttons on the steering wheel. https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/7e0AAOSwohVcha1c/s-l1200.jpg As of the 991.1, which moved the shifting to metal paddles behind the steering wheel, it became the much easier transmission to drive fast and safely (even in full manual mode).

Have owned several (5) manual transmission cars. It's fun, especially in a smaller car with a light clutch. However, heavy traffic is not a lot of fun. I sold my beloved 1984 Honda Accord after spending 4 hours driving 60 miles on freeway to a meeting in LA. Leg actually cramped, and that car had a very light and nice clutch. Note: not all manual transmission/clutch systems are created some. Some suck, while some are great. New ones are hard to find. Very few manuals made any more.

It’s awesome, except in stop and go traffic or if you just love self driving / automatic cruise control.

Learn by having friends and family that like you with cars in the 90s and 00s. Alternatively, fly to a European country and rent one for a 20 bucks a day and just ruin the clutch.
