I've sat through a dozen or so utility conferences where they discuss wildfire strategies. Honestly, it always seemed like whack a mole. The system areas are so large and old. Plus way more people are moving into areas without similar service area expansion. And I mean like actual comprehensive service expansion... like great you can get power and water to these expanded communities but they always skimp on emergency services.
That said, I think the problem seems impossible with our limited funds available but I bet if similar investments in dei were instead made to the infrastructure (and not just maintenance but making it smarter) we probably wouldn't be having this discussion. Oh and public utilities staffed by public union members are a joke.
