The city of Kassel is known as the raccoon capital of Germany- they are a major problem there. Raccoons were imported by German hunters in the Nazi era, but they don't have natural predators in most parts of Germany so most towns have animal control officers who kill a bunch of them.
Germans call them "Waschbären" - "wash bears" since they sometimes look like they are washing their food when they eat. |
