Guy went a decade in a hall of fame revolutionary metal GROUP then went solo and remained relevant as a solo artist/personality making radio hits for the next 15-20 years before becoming a legacy act.
Went from 70s metal to revolutionizing 80s metal, and the "grunge era" didn't really affect his success in the early to mid 90s when the rest of hair metal died out - 90s were arguably his most successful era on a commercial standpoint.
Pretty wild.
