1. The US cannot actually protect its allies, even from low-tech threats;
2. The US cannot be trusted to honor its promises to its allies (serious, meaningful protection in exchange for bases or whatever incentive the US wanted);
3. The US military is stuck in the last generation of warfare, which makes it far less intimidating; and
4. Nuclear weapons are a necessity.
These outcomes are tremendously destabilizing to American interests and ability to project power. The ramifications will be massive within a few years |
