not because of the twist or the realism. just because it's a damn fine film. great acting. solid plot development. great score.

What happened to this fucker. His first two movies were legitimately good shit, very fresh. Signs wasn't as satisfying as the first two, but was still entertaining throughout and felt like a perfectly fine "this one didn't quite work, but still not bad" movie for a top tier director. After that he just fell off a fucking cliff and no matter how many chances they gave him he just kept fucking it up.

idk, village seemed weird and off-kilter to me the whole time through. it was also a rip off of this childrens' novel I remembered reading in like 5th grade: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Running_Out_of_Time_(Haddix_novel)

Sixth Sense: A+, Unbreakable: A+, Signs: B+, Village: C, Lady in the Water: C-, The Happening: D

Don't remember what else there was.

sounds like part of the reason why people scoff at him is because it's been a steady decline. imagine if it were B+, C-, D, C+, A+, A+.

he could probably just retire on top of the game

no doubt that plays a part

he was also kind of smug when he was riding high. when he was riding high on SS and Unbreakable and Signs came out to good reviews, he gave some interview talking about how he knew the secret to greatness that only steven spielberg, michael jordan, and bob dylan also knew or some shit like that... Invited a lot of schadenfreude later
