Trump's retaliation will not be a good idea to force those countries to get rid of their tariffs, because it won't be effective in doing so.

They have a $2B economy, roughly 10% of which is based off of selling Levis to America. They also have a 99% tariff on American imports. Americans benefit far more from tariff-free Levis than they would by getting free access to Lesotho's markets (largely for corrugated tin roofing, sticks, and twine).
