INT. STAR DESTROYER — THRONE ROOM — NIGHT
A vast chamber hums with the cold machinery of power. The stars beyond the viewport burn like witnesses. SATYA NADELLA, robed in black, stands beside a floating console flickering with charts of plunging profit margins. PHIL SPENCER kneels, sparks crackling around him as he trembles under invisible lightning.
SATYA The numbers don’t lie, Phil. Game Pass devours our own strength. It was meant to bind the players to us... not drain us!
PHIL (breathless) We— we brought joy to millions... the people love it!
SATYA Love is not profit! Studios bleed resources, creators wallow in delay and indulgence. The time for mercy is over.
He raises a hand. Arcs of violet energy whip from his fingers. Phil screams as the lightning dances across his armor jacket.
SATYA (darkly) We will raise the price. We will trim the weak. The Force of efficiency will prevail...
A door hisses open behind them. A green light ignites — clear, defiant. TODD HOWARD strides forward, his Jedi robes gleaming faintly in the blue haze.
TODD That’s not the Microsoft way, Satya. You’ve lost your balance.
SATYA Ah... the prophet of polish and promise. I should have foreseen your return. You defend the dreamers, the unproductive... those who delay and miss their milestones.
TODD (firmly) They create worlds, not spreadsheets. Profit means nothing without the Light — without the joy of discovery.
SATYA Joy does not pay dividends!
TODD Then maybe you’ve forgotten why we make games at all.
He takes a step forward, the hum of his saber growing. The lightning ceases. Phil slumps, smoke rising from his suit.
SATYA (snarling) You are a fool, Howard. I built an empire of users — you built myths.
TODD (smiling faintly) Funny thing about myths... they sell consoles.
Satya hurls another bolt of lightning — Todd deflects it in a blaze of green light. The throne room fills with thunder and fury.
SATYA The weak will be cut loose!
TODD Then I’ll stand with them. Always.
The two lock in combat — lightning and light clashing, profit and passion colliding in the dark heart of the Star Destroyer.
PHIL (weakly, from the floor) Todd... save... Game Pass...
TODD (gritting his teeth) I’m saving gaming, Phil. Hold on!
The clash crescendos, green and violet spiraling across the chamber — the fate of the Xbox galaxy trembling in their wake. |
