I think the short answer is yes, at least in the short-to-medium term (long term invokes much broader philosophical and historical questions), but to me that's not the most interesting question right now. Keep in mind there's always going to be some branch of libs who are ultraprogressive/insane and who will try to reinstate the "trans girls can fuck your kids in bathrooms if they like!" era. I do think that's over. But right now I'm fascinated by the political question, which is whether the D party: (a) rejects that ideology, including on the perception that it fucked things up for them in '24, and moves more toward the center, taking cues from Trump / Rs / blue dogs, or (b) doubles down on the insane agenda. If they do (a) then '28--and '26--could be a real contest. If they do (b) then the Ds as a party will self-cannibalize / implode. There's a war going on in the party right now about this, as there was in '16, and it's fascinating to watch it play out. There are voices who genuinely believe that the reason Ds lost in '24 is because they weren't ultra-lib enough. They genuinely believe it. There are equally voices who are trying to tell those people to STFU and stop if they want any chance of winning in the midterms and then in '28.

This is the Berniebro party line, but it fails to account for the fact that the sitting POTUS had a massive episode of severe cognitive decline live on TV in front of 50+M voters four months before the election. See also, Kamala lost by 200k votes spread across the three closest swing states, where she held down losses/maintained Biden’s 2020 vote and in some small pockets even exceeded it. It’s true that the Bronx swung wildly toward Trump, likely because NYC has been a giant shitshow basketcase for four straight years from Covid through a quarter million illegals being bussed in from TX and FL. Biden was a very unpopular POTUS who was awful at any form of public speaking before his brain turned completely to pudding. He had a number of very unpopular policies and was forced out of the race because he was certain to lose in a massive landslide, due to his low performing brain. His VP was inevitably going to get some of that stink on her, but it’s the height of extremely online politics nerd nonsense to think that Liz Cheney had fuck all to do with the outcome of the election. The only people who know who she is, let alone how the Harris campaign tried to “deploy” her, are politics nerds who knew who they were voting for since the day Biden announced his reelection bid and who didn’t waiver whatsoever supporting whichever side when Biden was pushed out last summer.

The “not lib enough” voices aren’t saying “we needed to DEI harder and have even more drag queen story hours!” They’re saying that Bernie economics have never been tried and are therefore a sure winner even though they can’t actually provide any evidence to support this claim and ignore eg all the polling that shows that Bernie’s version of M4A is a surefire political loser.
The reason that the answer to the OP is “definitely yes” is that all the identity politics interest groups were completely embarrassed by 2024. Blacks and Latinos shifted massively away from the Dems. Abortion was supposed to be the silver bullet issue. People were aware that anti-trans backlash was becoming potent, but a year ago tranny activists were still able to downplay it/claim that Bud Light was just social media that wouldn’t shift votes. The election made certain that two important points took hold as newly acquired lib CW: 1) IdPol activists, especially black and Latino activists (their Asian problems are so bad they can’t even comprehend them yet), are basically useless and completely out of touch with the communities they claim to represent/likely did more harm than good for libs in 2024, and need to be pushed out of all decision making/strategic conversations for a generation if not longer, and 2) trans rights are politically toxic and the trans activists have done more to hurt than help trans people by ensuring they are a useful target for the right to win votes and make libs/Dems look stupid and out of touch. They also will be silenced unless/until the Dems win massive federal level majorities and POTUS, so likely at least until the 2030s.

it's just dormant. every generation or so there's a big progressive cultural movement that flares up only for it to swing back because of it's excesses.
hippies -> 80s conservative resurgence -> 90s political correctness -> 2000s conservative resurgence -> woke era -> you are here.

This is closer to correct, except that the working class just showed the world how easy they are to manipulate and control, so I would not expect them to end up as big winners relative to any other group. We are going to start treating flyover non-college whites more and more like URMs where we give them set asides and direct cash payments to buy their votes, and unlike blacks they and Latinos will be a dominant political plurality that will be able to make the parties bid against each other for their support. The next shift will be Ayn Rand Libertarians getting too much influence via the Freedom Caucus, followed by a lib winning back swing states by promising more handouts to poors. It will be 100 different versions of “no tax on tips.”

Be that as it may there are still levers of power that UMC white collar fags like me can pull to fight back. That isn’t a guarantee of success, but it does make your priorities less attractive targets than other groups who have a many decade track record of taking it up the ass to enrich the already super wealthy. The working class just bent over and presented its collective butthole for the top .01% to pummel because they were literally mad that McDonald’s raised its prices 40%, and actually mad that smug libs act pretentious and deserve to be punched in the throat. So they set their baseline price entering this new anti-lib, billionaires uber alles coalition as low as they could. Trump already got them a second double cheeseburger for a $1 and he wasn’t even inaugurated yet.

The reason his timeline is wrong is that it assumes US dominated GC as the economic context, and econ is likely to be, at a minimum, a much more dominant force in electoral politics for the next 10-15 years v the period of USSR demise and 30+ years of US as the lone super power. Eg moderate libs will for sure get to Trump’s right on China and hurt him with it before Jan 2029.

Its like grizzly bears in Alaska. Not nearly as deadly as tehy were in the frontier, but they're still out there and unpredictable.
Look at that Philly fan who lost his job last week. I thought we were done doing that shit - but I guess not.
Don't be surprised if some events rile dumb people up and everyone makes their Instagram profile a black box again.
Right now Reddit is tryign to rile people up about Elon's salue and influencers are getting cancelled for downplayign it. I think we went from 70/30 to 30/70 crazy, but that 30 is still a big a number and it still can enforce its rules within that group.

no, and it's mostly a mistake to think of that stuff as a social phenomenon. it's socially-mediated, and carried out by zealots and useful idiots, but they are granted greater or lesser access to power at varying points in time by institutional and economic actors.
the fentanyl floyd riots in 2020 were partly those actors flexing power, staging a soft coup, and letting everyone else know that they COULD do those sorts of things at will.
however, the actual implementation of shitlib policy was becoming too much of an economic drag, and it was partly cut loose more recently.
that has very little to do with 'the people' changing their individual levels of shitlibbery. if those institutions need another set of floyd riots for some other purpose, they have the capacity to stir some up.
