If you can generate a certain enthusiasm for it, Chicago can be a great city.
The others on the list you dont even really merit visiting. The only people who live there should be people who want to stay close to their parents or something

Chicago was the best big city I ever lived near, but that was over 25 years ago. We lived in Winnetka and routinely took the train downtown to do stuff. Not sure what the deal is now.
Redditor comment on Sacramento: "Do you complain about your Accord because it's not a Ferrari?"

Chicago sucks. Between the shitty weather, the shitty people, the shitty taxes, it is just shitty. It is a city full of Midwesterners with tons of ghettos. The city government is full of Soros backed BS.

Idk. I’ve been there a few times and liked it more than expected. I went to Arthur Bryant’s for BBQ, went to the WWI museum, to Boulevard brewery, to a Royals game. There are fountains all over downtown. It’s not Paris but it’s got some charm.
Dallas and Sac seem totally soulless to me.

Dallas > Chicago > Sacramento / Memphis (both of the last 2 are awful but in different ways).
I've never been to Kansas City.

Dallas is fine. I was there a few weeks ago. It is the only place on the list I would be ok actually living.

Chicago > Dallas > Sacramento > KC > Memphis
Chicago has great architecture, decent arts, good transportation, easy flights to east coast, etc. Great restaurants.
Parts of Dallas are really nice (like Highland Park), and it has some kooky art stuff too. It’s a little too far to get to, lacks the higher end arts stuff Chicago has, and is hot as balls in the summer. It also is now too expensive for what it is and many of the houses are all on top of each other with minimal yards.
Sacramento is meh but close to offerings of SF and Napa. Best climate of this list, but a pretty boring place and way, way overpriced for what it is. You have to pay enormous CA taxes and deal with all the bureaucracy/red tape. No thanks.
The burbs of KC (Overland Park) are decent midwestern suburbs where you can get a nice house. The actual city is like 5 square blocks and apart from some decent food blows ass and feels gritty/dangerous. I think it’s a great place to live if you’re from there, but wouldn’t consider living there. (FWIW, I end up liking almost every bro I meet from KC…they seem to have a pretty fratty and fun culture.)
Memphis is an actual dangerous shithold and I have no idea why anyone would live there. It doesn’t belong on the list of anywhere you should consider living unless it’s for a pre-determined short period of time (like a medical residency or something).

1) chicago. in the nyc/la/chicago trinity of truly iconic american cities. it's large so you have plenty of OPERA. great architecture.
2) sacremento. as a city in isolation it ranks pretty low, but it gets the #2 spot due to it's proximity to nature, sanfran for opera, and climate.
3) kansas city. fake city. it's mostly sprawl with nice but soulless attractions.
4) dallas. basically a larger and more soulless version of kansas city.
5) memphis. quintessential "nice to visit, horrible to live" city. like new orleans there are some truly cool and iconic attractions, but actually living there would be hell because of the dindu hordes.

Im surprised at the low ranking for Sacramento.
Sac may be my first or second. Weather and access to nature counts for a lot imo and Sac leads the way there.
