A man played the saxophone under the overpass. I envied him.

Took a different route home tonight, hoping for something new. Passed by an overpass where a man stood, playing the saxophone like his life depended on it. The notes echoed through the damp air, cutting through the usual city sounds of sirens and distant shouting.
People walked by without stopping. Some didn’t even notice. But I did. I stood there, listening, and for a moment, I felt something close to peace.
He played like he didn’t care who was listening, like the world could fall apart around him and he’d keep going. I envied that. He had purpose.
Got home, stared at my reflection in the window, and whispered, “Yes, friend. This is fine.”
