$900 fee, up from $700

Entertainment credit increases from $22 monthly to $25 monthly. Incudes YoutubeTV and Youtube Premium now.

$100 Resy restaurant credit every quarter

Fine hotels credit increases from $200 annually to $300 every 6 mos

$75 Lululemon credit every quarter

$120 Uber One credit in addition to same $15 monthly Uber credit

The most lulzy is a $200 Oura ring credit every year. I guess you can cop one and sell on eBay?

the oura ring requires a monthly subscription to do any useful sleep / activity tracking. i had one for a bit, didn't want to pay a subscription, realized it was useless and have never touched it since.

it's really dumb for anyone who does lifting or pull ups or anything else because it gets scratched and messes with your grip while holding any bar.

it's also not very good at tracking compared to wrist-based devices like garmin or apple watches.

it's a pure celebrity and marketing-hype driven device

It's not that hard for the average person to break even on the card.

Everyone orders takeout from Uber at least 1 a month and subscribes to some streaming package. So that's $500 immediately off the bat for doing daily shit

Now if you travel & check bags then the $200 airline credit comes back quickly

So that last $200 is just the cost of lounge access. Or work to earn it back in Resy credit or Hotel credit, if you care do so

It's a matter of degree.

Taking a flight that's 30 minutes later than your optimal departure time so you can do first class makes sense.

Taking a flight that's 90 minutes later than your optimal departure time so you can do first class is completely retarded unless you're Disco Fries.

I'm not Disco Fries but I find that if I fly economy I'm really tired and annoyed when I arrive and when I fly first class I'm fine. So I just refuse to take economy unless I have absolutely no other options. I have to travel at least monthly and travel has annoyances even in the best of cases, so I make it as nice as possible.

For neuroticmos / the mentall weak, the math does work out different.

I'm emotionally stable and resiliant. I will find an experience completely chill that a neuroticmo will find torturous. The difference between first class and economy are negligible for me. Either way, i'm perfectly happy going into it, during it, and after it.

Yeah, I think I'm unusually intolerant of travel discomfort (it probably is a form of neuroticism) and rather than brush it off it irrationally enrages me and a dark cloud hangs over me for the next day. Little things like the plane sitting for an hour or two waiting to take off amplifies that, and this has happened to me several times over the last 6 months. For me it is a no-brainer.

Also, the financial difference is nothing for me, so not sure why I would penny pinch on this?

1000% on board with you adding a layover or taking a later flight to fly first class.

Our hypo above started out both quite different and more generalized.

Yeah, but also the fact that we schedule our flights completely differently probably makes a very big difference. If you avoid evening flights and fly in the morning and don't really mind economy then that makes all the difference.

I never understood airline lounges. Who just has a bunch of free time at the airport?

You go through security and go to the gate.

Do retards really get to the airport an extra hour early just so they can get some free GC poison slop? Waste an hour of their day for $5 worth of slop that just poisons them? Completely absurd.

2nd time was smaller airport and bkk and it was actually good

3rd time in mauritius and only good cause free wine but the food was hideous and they had little kids yelling and screaming and shit

the lounges are very nice and allow me to happily show up early and book flights with layovers instead of tight connections. it takes all the stress out of it. also when you get a delay or cancellation it is fucking 180 to just kick it in the lounge. they say there's a 3 hour time limit but it's never enforced.

it's just a couple extra hours on the handful of days a year i fly. like instead of showing up 1 hour early i show up 2 and hang in the lounge. instead of booking a 30 minute connection and stressing about it i book a 2 hour one and chill. compared to rushing-to-gate-mos, that's time well spent if you ask me. also the amex lounges are pretty much yuppie urban restaurant quality, so you're getting a "free" meal and cocktails while you wait, which again is one less thing to stress about.

Non-stressmo here who generally has places to be and things to do immediately before and after flying, so I can't relate.

That said, I fully support your approach for you and my comments regarding retardedness, etc don't apply to you.

The problem is that if you fly from a large airport near a major city you have to build in some time because of all the potential issues (traffic, security lines that are longer than expected, etc.). You can't just leave assuming you'll arrive 30 minutes before boarding and nbd.

Lets say that you have a flight out of a NYC airport at 7:20pm, boarding starts at 7pm. Checkout from your hotel is 4pm but traffic can add any amount of time. So you shoot to get there at say, 5-5:30pm. If there is traffic then you get there 6 something and might spend 15-30 minutes in the lounge using a nicer bathroom, having some refreshments, sitting in a nicer seat. If you get there at 5pm because there is surprisingly little traffic you can sit in a work booth and pull out your work or personal laptop and do whatever you want to with that. If you want to go to a restaurant and then go to the lounge then you can do that too.

I pretty much never take morning flights. The only time I will ever take a morning flight is if my evening flight got cancelled and I had to take a flight first thing in the AM.

Interesting. I take 90% morning flights (often 6am). Latest flight I will do is an occasional 1pm or 2pm flight.

I presume you also maintain an unnatural / unhealthy sleep schedule and don't religiously bed around 9pm and wake up at 5am.

Yeah, I see how if you take morning flights the analysis changes dramatically but that is part of why I never, ever do that. Evening flights are chill. I get to my destination, get my luxury rental car, go to a restaurant, get to my nice hotel, maybe visit the fitness center, do a last round of emails, go to sleep. If the flight is delayed maybe I'll compress that and get delivery or takeout or whatever. But nbd. Morning is always stressful. A delay could mean that you'll miss whatever meeting you're flying in for.

But yes, you're right on schedule. I'm never asleep before midnight and often go to sleep more like 1-2am. In fact, my dog usually gets a really nice long walk/run in the middle of the night which helps me wind down and help the sleeping pills kick in.

only really worth it if you fly all the time in airports with an amex lounge, which are very nice if you can actually get in. 10x points on flights and hotels sounds cool but you have to buy through their ridiculously expensive portal which negates the value of the points unless you manage to find some insane bonus transfer.

These companies are definitely in the business of losing money, so you'll clearly come out top giving them $900 to get a bunch of coupons to spend on other stuff.

No way you'll just end up giving them $900, spending more money on their overpriced hotel site, spending $300 at fucking LuluLemon every quarter because you've got to use your credit, and adding a bunch of subscriptions you don't really need and will never forget to cancel.
