Makes sense. Once you have RNA replicating on its own in water, the forming of cells is kind of inevitable if lipids are also present and the RNA occasionally gets trapped in the vesicles that form and then the enclosed rna outcompete the others. Then you already have proto-bacteria. And RNA forming DNA due to conformal geometry might basically be inevitable at that point.

I think hydrothermal vents are really a great place for it. You've got a system thats performing hot chemistry within an environment that's basically stochasticity operating within a constrained funnel. All of the ingredients are there and the process has enough constraints on it that it's not some random walk through an astronomical probability space. Once the right conditions are met it could potentially be inevitable that something like that emerges. There are models that apply autocatalytic sets to this process, I can't remember the specific chemistries/pathways off the top of my head but it seems plausible enough.
