- Cities are walkable. Nice to just pop out and take a walk w the fam.
- People are actually doing interesting stuff in cities. In the suburbs I imagine you would see a lot of boring people doing boring things.
- Limited places to go for entertainment

Literally all people do/all there is to do in cities is eat and get drunk. Any actual interests or outdoor shit you want to pursue you cant do because you’re trapped in a city and crappy apartment with no space

My suburb has sidewalks and a cute little downtown that has all the basics. We can walk there, the library, the kids’ schools, playgrounds, the town pool, etc. All without homeless people screaming and the constant smell of piss (can drive or train into the city for that), and a community with a lot of other well-mannered white and Asian young families all focused on raising our kids. There are grocery stores, markets, Target, etc. all within 5-10 mins. It’s reasonably quiet and we have a nice but small yard. Not sure where else I would raise a family?

1. Plenty of suburbs have parks nearby.
2. That's circular reasoning bs. We asked what the interesting things are.
3. Ok, what entertainment in particular? Be specific.

- I can walk to everything I need. Something nice about not needing a car to get everywhere.
- I’m around a lot of creative people. So think someone starting and running a successful fashion brand, people with successful youtube shows, journalists, writers, activists, comedians, people in fashion etc. Even with work, everyone in my industry is either in San Francisco or NYC
Some of these people are annoying but it’s better than running into 100 people that work at the bank or hospital.
-Do we really need to lay out the difference in entertainment options between NYC and a suburb

not having a car actually sucks,
having a car in the suburbs, more things are within a 20 minute trip than are within a 20 minute trip without a car in the city.
I'd say they're a surprising number of hipsters starting coffee shops, breweries, and restaurants within a 10 minute drive of us (little bit unique in that we're in the county capital outside a bigger city, so there something of a mini-downtown within businesses).
It really helps that real estate is affordable enough here that you need a lot less in financing to start 1 of those types of businesses (just to make rent and whatnot).

Today so far I’ve gone to the opera, discovered this cool pop up gallery where an experimental artist menstruates on the audience, had to give my phone to a schizo with a knife, ate some amazing Yemenese shit, carried Whole Foods bags two miles, and mailed in quarterly estimated municipal taxes. Just kinda basically enjoyed the scent of urine, marijuana, and immigrants.
Tbf I don’t miss NYC much anymore - though I miss seeing celebs

NYC was great for single people because everyone gets hammered and walks home. I'm not sure this is even true anymore because people don't really go to bars to hook up anymore.
Suburb is much better for kids. We walk to school. Easy for kids to bike ride. I can let them run ahead on walks and hit each other with sticks. It's easy to go to a ton of playgrounds where i can either talk to other parents i know or just hang out on my phone.
When I've gone to playgrounds in the city there are always drug addicts at the permiter so you have to basically be ready for battle.
That's really the essence of it. Living in a city is a battle. "Is this homeless guy in my train car talking to himself dangerous" "Am I really going to take the subway as its 20 minutes delayed and water is pouring in from the ceiling, knowing when it gets here i'm going to have push my way on" "Do I want to go to this restaurant knowing i'm going to be out $200 and my table is going to be touching the stranger's table next to me" "Do I want to get 2 gallons of milk and be done with the store for a while but then i have to carry the 2 gallosn of milk 5 blocks"
Suburbs you can just chill out, and if you want to do anything a city offers, you can hop in your own luxury car and drive there in 30 minutes.

Was legit 50 yards from a shooting yesterday at a NYC park. Was a bit surreal but this is prob the main benefit of moving to the suburbs.
