Shanghai and Beijing hotels were furking more expensive than other cities. I was surprised, in BJ I cldnt even find a hotel under $60 in the central area so I had to stay far out near airport. But that was summer if u go in other times prob not as many tourists
Between Shanghai and BJ there are some cool cites like Nanjing, Hangzhou, Suzhou that are worth a couple days each. There's also some cool ancient towns like Pingyao that are a bit out of the way but still doable |

I cld have done cheaper but lived it up. There are veddy many new modern 180 clean hotels in China now, and all hotels must accept foreigners technically. So you only wld have a few days left. And the other big cities like Chengdu are quite far away. U cld do Tiajin near Beijing but its not veddy good for tourism though a 180 developed gorgeous city. There's another ancient city called Kaifeng where the Kikes lived.
