Spectre, NTTD, Quantum, and Skyfall were all equally tedious. Losers seem to prefer Skyfall by a good margin. I get bored with how he’s always going rogue and shit. Also Q is supposed to be a QUARTEEMASTER, not a straight-up Nerd.

Casino Royale 2006 was directed by a master of action storytelling; everything just works seamlessly. I kind of liked QoS as a short and brutal coda but everything that followed was botched by that overrated American Beauty director they brought in.

Skyfall is better than Spectre but not NTTD imo

The bigger problem is that Spectre ruins Skyfall and all the other movies by making all the bad guys turn out to be wage slaves for Christoph Waltz. And his only motivation is some weird sibling revenge fantasy that nobody understands

Blofeld is supposed to look like Dr. Evil so casting Waltz (perfect looking white dude) made this plot more impenetrable.

Basically his dad wanted to break their phenotype chain and adopted a Golden God (Craig) to be his brother

They should've had Rami Malek play Blofeld as the bad guy in NTTD but kept the entire rest of the plot, and then the sibling rivalry and ending would've made sense

And made Waltz be Dr. No / Goldfinger in Spectre (same exact plot but no step-brother bullshit, and he still gets killed by Blofeld in NTTD)

Growing up, I really liked every 007 movie on the first viewing. After a spell, I could revisit many of them and see they were mediocre after all. Spectre was the first one where I said, “That sucked”, on the way out

The problem with the Bond movies is that the stories got too "big." Casino Royale is amazing because its scale is relatively small. Bond is trying to neutralize a banker, not restructure an entire system / bring down an over-the-top ridiculous crime syndicate and cartoon villain. The approach they took with Craig as Bond in Casino Royale doesn't suit itself to the more zany / cartoonish elements of the later films. And when those films try and be self-serious, it just comes off poorly.

At least with the Brosnan films, you can sort of say "well yeah this is camp and Brosnan gets his fuck on while beating a cartoon villain." The tone fits the actor and so forth.

I've started to read the classic books and they are a cut above the movies. Fleming would've been a poaster.

This is one reason From Russia With Love is one of my favorites. The plot is still very silly (they need Bond mainly bc he has a rep for fucking well?), but the stakes are not global/cartoonish.

Btw NTTD is quite similar to the YOLT book which is totally different from the YOLT Film. And that was basically the last book in the continuity and he’s presumed dead by MI6. It was Cool if you’re one of the 0.5% who’ve read the books.

But SPECTRE and Skyfall are The Same imo.

Watching Skyfall now. Why is M Testifying to the House of Commons and it’s intercut with Bond doing action shit. Also Javier Bardem being dressed up like a cop and being one step ahead of everyone just seems outright Stolen from The Dark Knight. He has his own Island btw. Imagine if Bernard Lee Testified during Operation Grand Slam and how shitty it would be. How do they get away with this shit? Because the Films are all 7 years apart so people can’t not watch them?

Nothing against Judi Dench but they kinda moved M into the spotlight with those movies and made her someone that Bond “cares about” and even a damsel in distress. It was a bit absurd. Bernard Lee’s M was a gruff authority figure that dished out exposition over a pipe and maybe had a couple other comic relief moments throughout his run.
