yeah, but he didn't have the two and a half men role either when he made the choice

he writes in his autobiography that the studio forces you to exclusively commit to being a finalist for a show, and he was choosing between being a finalist for one or the other. this decreases the leverage that the actor has to nil, given the studio knows they have no backup, so if they pick you they can pay you garbage

he really was perfect as alan in the show though and writes that the character is more or less how he is irl
