So this religious constraint caused a lot of men to move to Germany for a new start where they took up a more secular life or pretended to be Lutheran. This side of my family then immigrated to the United States and went to work in the anthracite coal region of Central Pennsylvania. Other branches of my family also came to America seeking religious freedom. It’s an American story. And I’m deeply religious. |
