State police helicopter collided with airplane in deadly Carlisle Airport crash
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — The Federal Aviation Agency has released new details in a deadly plane crash involving a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter and another airplane at Carlisle airport.
A spokesperson with the FAA confirmed that a Cessna 150 airplane and a Bell 407 helicopter collided midair near Carlisle around 7 p.m.
Two people were reportedly on board the helicopter, which has been determined to be a state police aircraft.
Dispatch confirmed the coroner was called to the airport.
Photos from the scene showed the wreckage of a helicopter with the state police emblem.
The FAA said they do not currently know how many people were onboard the Cessna.
Governor Shapiro confirmed he has been briefed on the crash and is en route to the area.
It is also unknown how many people have been hurt.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are continuing to investigate.
A preliminary report of the accident is expected to be posted within the next day.
