Been seeing this chick lately, mid 20s, White, brunette, sporty, very pretty, email job. Keeping things pretty casual but also mostly exclusive. You could call it a "situationship" like the kids say these days. She has recently been dropping hints that she wants more but I'm cautious about long term commitment. Don't want to end up like some of my wifeguy friends who have ended up in truly disastrous situations
This past weekend she invited me to go out sailing with her and her family on their sailboat. I didn't realize she's "old money" but that's cool I guess. I like classy gals. It was actually really enjoyable and I got along really well with all her family members, especially her younger brother who plays the same Crusader Kings mods as me
At one point me and her dad were smoking cigars alone at the bow of the boat, surveying the water, kind of like a movie scene. I realized that I might want to take this relationship to the "next step" so I asked him what kind of dowry he would offer along with his daughter's hand in marriage
I thought I pulled off the ask pretty cool and collected but the guy flew into a rage out of nowhere. Started screaming about "how dare I" "insult his little girl" like that. I pointed out that his daughter is a fully adult woman and I was actually being respectful by taking her seriously as such and treating marriage with her as a lifelong commitment. He got even more pissed and called me a "broccoli-haired douchebag" at which point things seriously escalated from there and when I started mocking his baldness he told me I needed to get the fuck off "his" boat
I was gonna just chalk it up to a mis-step and ghost this chick but then she called me up earlier today and apologized for her father's behavior, calling it "short man energy" (he's 5'11", I'm 6'4") and told me she still "wants to be with me." We made plans to see each other this weekend. Do you guys think I should increase the amount of the dowry I demand from her father the next time I see him? Or should I drop it a bit as a conciliatory gesture? I'm trying to "demonstrate value" like Mystery used to say back in the day
