I had read about how good it was (including on xo) but never tried it. But, yesterday, I did.
Of course, the container is nice. You can see the ingredients and mix the layers as you wish. I had a Caramel one and there were other ingredients and I tasted it with everything mixed up and tasted it where I only had one layer at a time. I preferred to mix and match as I continued eating. At the end, I was left with a mixed combination of all the ingredients.
The mouth feel however is where it misses the mark. It is marketed as Gelato and even though it is Gelato-like, it lacks the true smoothness that Gelato would have. I have had maybe a hundred Gelatos in Italy in at least twelve different cities spread geographically throughout the country. I know Gelato. Talenti was lacking in depth and texture. This would not pass as reasonable fare at any Gelato place in Italia.
As far as the taste is concerned, it tastes like regular grocery store ice cream. It’s not bad and there are complex tastes that can be satisfied with Talenti but the taste is not unique or meritorious enough to buy it over any other CR brand.
For the same price, I could have gotten Ben and Jerry’s 1.5x or two boxes of Klondike bars. Klondike bars are consistent and always a joy.
In short, I would not recommend Talenti for your ice cream needs.
