Immigrants would borrow a million dollars backed by the taxi medallions and use it to purchase the medallion. Then they’d fail make enough money to cover the costs and the medallion would get repossessed. When it was discovered, the NYT crowd all pretended like the immigrants were the victims, rather than all the native who knew the value of the dollar who got pushed out of the taxi industry.

Her dad was a janitor and I have no idea what her mom did, but they owned their own home in Queens and got onto ICE’s radar by buying a second home and renting it out to someone who they got into a disagreement with. |
