even though the ski season is done, mt. hood and timberline lodge have lots of hiking and rivers nearby.

the canonical tourist things to see would include mt. st. helens and the columbia river gorge (including the hikes above the gorge). a simple drive out past the dalles is interesting due to the change in landscape from forests to the high desert.
