As stated in the other thread, I can use my pi hole etc from hotel rooms, i.e., no ads anywhere and faster browsing in general. Also, I can get around just about all corporate restrictions

Another feature is that I have a network file server running sonarr and radarr-- i just connect my laptop to the TV via hdmi and let it do what it do.

Yes. It literally blocks the requests at the DNS level and returns a 404 error just for the external content hosted on sites, making the internet "feel" about 25% faster in my experience.

If a device requests content from a blacklisted domain, like any ad server, the pihole LIES and tells the device the server is down. It won't block YouTube ads because those are pulled straight off Google, but it blocks enough other shit that I can immediately tell when I'm not using it. News sites are much easier to read because 80% of the ads aren't there. Having a DNS server can theoretically help you access sites that are under DDOS attacks

It's an IQ test. There are idiots to pay to route their traffic to Switzerland. Like that helps.

That said, using a VPN like Wireguard to connect to your home network is cr.

There are many objective reasons to use one like hiding traffic from your IP, masking your IP from websites, encrypting your traffic. But probably the most important one is enabling secure use of untrusted networks
